Happy Halloween! I can’t believe it’s the end of October already! I know most of us are excited to see the back of 2020 but it’s crazy how quickly this year is flying.
Those who know me well know that, after Christmas and my birthday, October is one of my favourite times of the year. From the beauty of the changing leaves, to woolly jumpers, to visiting the pumpkin patch- I love all things October. Who doesn’t?
I must admit I was slightly worried ‘Miss Rona’ would ruin October for everyone this year but it seems, despite everything, this month has not disappointed. To celebrate, I’ve decided to blog about my favourite parts! (I’d love for you guys to share yours with me too!)
What I wore:
I always end up spending so much money on clothes at the start of autumn. I’m a sucker for oversized comfy jumpers and the browns/burnt oranges that the season brings. For those of you that missed last week’s blog post, ‘Workwear fashion on a mid-size body’, you can check out what I spent most of this month wearing to work. Outside of work, my go to outfit (besides my PJ’s) has been this cream knitted jumper. It’s so comfy to chill in around the house but I’ve also dressed it up with tights, heeled boots and a belt to go shopping in!

At the weekends, I’ve dressed up and hit the bars in Newcastle city centre- before 10pm of course. Here are my three favourite looks from this month, excluding my Halloween costume which I will post on Instagram later today!
(My liver hurts just looking at these photos...)
What I heard:
This month my favourite Spotify playlist has been ‘Hits from The Musicals.’ No matter what kind of mood I’ve been in over the past four weeks, this playlist has made me smile. I’ve lip synced to Hamilton at work, I’ve belted out Dreamgirls in the shower, I’ve even (drunkenly) tap danced on the kitchen counter to The Greatest Showman. The arts are so important to so many people across the world and I can’t wait for theatres to reopen and make a comeback! (Until then I shall continue practicing my one-man performance of Mama Mia.)
What I watched:
When I saw ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ was out on Netflix this month I almost peed my pants with excitement. I love scary films and I thought ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ was terrifying! The sequel left me just as traumatised as the first, but not in the same way. Instead of jumping out of my skin, I was balling my eyes out. Without giving away any spoilers, the story is more heartbreaking than scary. If you haven’t seen it already, it’s definitely worth the watch but prepare to be left in pain.
What I bought:
I've been in desperate need of updating my makeup bag for quite a while now. My makeup brushes were looking a little worse for wear and I seriously needed to try a new foundation. Below are my favourite beauty purchases.

BareMinerals Bare Pro Foundation: I'm in love with this foundation. It has a great coverage and lasts all day long with a beautiful matte finish. The colour is slightly darker than what I would normally wear but it's a great match for when I have tan on. My skin can be quite sensitive so I was worried about trying something new but i've had no problems with this product so far!

Benefit The Porefessional Primer: This primer is the best for filling large pores and creates a perfect canvas for makeup. It makes my skin look flawless with a matte finish that feels silky and smooth. I also love how it smells and I'm a sucker for benefits vintage packaging. I can't bear to throw it away!

L'oreal True Match Super-blendable Powder: After splashing out on primer and foundation, I needed a more affordable powder. As the name suggests, it's very easy to blend and has warm undertones to add a little colour. For the price it provides excellent coverage and stays in place for hours. I love how light it feels when I wear it.
What I ate:
My favourite thing to make for dinner is...reservations. (Just kidding!) I'm actually really starting to enjoy cooking. A lot of that is down to 'Simply Cook'- a subscription based recipe box service. Every fortnight they send me spices and recipes for 4 delicious meals. All I have to do is buy a few fresh ingredients and follow the simple instructions on the card. It's a great service for people who need to expand their cooking repertoire and try new things. I haven't had a bad meal from them yet!
As for eating out, my favourite restaurant this month was 'Blackfriars' Newcastle. Established in 1239 as a Dominican friary, Blackfriars is believed to be the oldest purpose-built restaurant in the UK! They serve traditional British food that tastes (and looks) amazing. I had the crayfish & salmon cocktail and the chicken breast with bacon & beetroot. Tomorrow I'm heading back there to try out their Sunday roast!
What I thought:
October has been pretty jam packed. I've worked hard and I've had lots of fun. I've spent time with the people I love the most and I couldn't be more grateful for such a wonderful month. Next month will be full of brand new challenges as I start a new job and set myself new goals. I can't wait to see what November brings!
